Twenty minutes in the sauna. Twenty minutes in the sea. On repeat. Freezing Hot is a sauna and cold water contrast experience built for mental resilience first, with the physical benefits following close behind.
Min in Sauna
Min in the Sea
On Repeat
Freezing Hot is built around a simple cycle: 20 minutes in the sauna, 20 minutes in the sea, repeated. The heat pushes your body to its limit, the cold resets it completely, and the switch between the two is where the real work happens.
This isn’t really about the temperature. It’s about what happens in your head in the seconds before you step into the sea, and what’s left of you by the time you climb out the second time. The physical benefits are real and well documented, but they’re a side effect of the main event: building mental resilience under genuine discomfort.
Heat pushed to the edge of comfort
Cold water, full reset
Back to the heat, and round again
Contrast therapy; the deliberate switch between heat and cold; has been studied for its effect on the body and the nervous system. Here’s what the research points to.
Why switch between the two? Alternating heat and cold is what researchers call a hormetic stimulus; a controlled, beneficial stress that trains your body and nervous system to adapt and recover faster. The combination is consistently linked to more benefit than either the sauna or the cold water alone, including better sleep, improved stress resilience, and faster physical recovery. As with any new physical stressor, ease in gradually and speak to your GP first if you have any underlying heart or circulation conditions.
A look inside an actual Freezing Hot session; drop your footage in to bring this section to life.
You can’t fake this on camera. The moment between stepping out of the sauna and going under the water is where Freezing Hot actually happens; everything else is just the build-up.
A short clip from inside a real session does more to explain the format than any amount of copy on this page. If you’ve got footage of the sauna, the walk down to the sea, or the plunge itself, this is where it belongs.

A short briefing on the format, the safety guidance, and what to expect before anyone goes near the heat or the water.
The group heads into the sauna together, pushed to a controlled, genuine level of heat discomfort.
Straight from the heat into the cold water, with coaches on hand throughout for safety and encouragement.
Back to the sauna and round again. The session closes with everyone together, properly spent, and feeling it.
